History of Kendall

Kendall, Florida, was a parcel of land purchased by the Florida Land and Mortgage Company in 1883. It was named after the director of said company, Henry John Broughton Kendall, who moved to the area in the 1900s to manage the land. It was not open to homesteading, so it was slow to develop, but people slowly trickled into town after the post office opened in 1914. When the Florida land boom ended in 1926, some residents of the area left, but many stayed. The town has slowly grown over the decades, overcoming a minor setback in August 1992 when Hurricane Andrew destroyed many homes and businesses in Kendall and the surrounding area.

Location

Kendall, Florida, is located in Miami-Dade County near the southern tip of Florida. It is a small suburb of Miami and is 16.3 square miles in size.

Florida is known as the Sunshine State, and that holds true in Kendall, where the summers are hot, humid, and sunny. During the heat of the summer, it's common to have afternoon storms, but most of the time, they pass relatively quickly and the sun comes back out. This gives visitors and locals alike some time to enjoy a cooler evening. Winters are much cooler, but the temperature in Kendall never gets too low. In fact, while other parts of the United States are dealing with snow and ice, in Kendall, Florida, it rarely dips below the mid-40s, which makes it a great place to visit at any time of year.

Since this community is just outside of Miami, there's plenty to do in Kendall to keep you, your family, and your friends occupied for hours on end. Probably the most popular attraction near Kendall is Zoo Miami. It's a great place to get up close and personal with animals of all kinds, and a visit here is fun for all ages. If you're more interested in going shopping, Kendall has a sprawling outdoor mall called the Palms at Town & Country that has all of your favorite brands and more, so you can get gifts for everybody on your shopping list or stock up on all of the things you want for yourself. It's a museum with plenty of antiques and stories surrounding the historical décor that a tour guide can walk you through during your visit. You can also tour the grounds and explore the gorgeous rose garden. No matter how you want to spend your days in Kendall, you'll find plenty of things to keep you entertained while you're here.

Where to Stay in Kendall

Kendall is a small community outside of Miami, and there aren't many hotels in Kendall proper. If you plan to visit Miami but are hoping to stay outside the city, you can look into the Candlewood Suites and Best Western Plus. However, you'll have better luck finding hotels near Kendall in some of the surrounding communities, especially Miami.
