Vargas, that is exactly what you will find! Dr. Vargas has great enthusiasm for his work and for life in general! Passionate about Education
Dr. Vargas hails from Colombia, where he earned a dentistry degree from the Institute of Health Sciences. In 1993, he immigrated to the US. Here, he earned degrees in both orthodontics and pediatric dentistry from NYU. He later earned a second degree in orthodontics from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Vargas currently teaches in the pediatric dentistry departments at both NYU and Nova Southeastern University. He loves that his career affords the opportunity to combine his professional and teaching goals.
Active, Enthusiastic, and Driven
Dr. Vargas’ drive is what spurred him to pursue four dental degrees. And he brings that same energy and passion to his personal and professional life.
In some practices, orthodontists have minimum contact with their patients. In contrast, Dr. Vargas personally sees each patient during every stage of treatment, from diagnosis to removal of orthodontic appliances. He loves getting to know his patients and helping them stay informed about their treatment. He always explains his diagnoses and all potential solutions. Then he, his patients, and their parents determine how they can best achieve their goals together.
Outside the office, Dr. Vargas loves physical fitness, waking every morning at 4:30 to work out. He enjoys skiing, soccer, and traveling. But his favorite activity is to spend time with his family - his wife Lina (also a dentist) and his two sons.
What Sets Our Practice Apart
Dr. Vargas has been with Main Street Children’s Dentistry and Orthodontics for 16 years. He loves seeing his former patients bring their own children in for treatment and feeling like he is making a positive impact on the community.
Dr. Vargas’ own fun-loving nature is reflected in our offices. Our bright and airy rooms are decorated with cheerful colors. And we offer Internet, video games, and chairside TV’s to keep our patients entertained and relaxed.

Early Orthodontic Intervention
In some cases, children as young as 8 to 10 years of age may benefit from early orthodontic treatment. Even though children at this age typically still have some of their baby teeth, orthodontists can detect problems with the developing jaw and incoming teeth. Without early intervention, these problems will worsen, leading to more severe orthodontic issues down the line and lengthier treatment. That is why the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children receive their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7.
Dr. Vargas is sparing in his recommendation for early intervention and never suggests treatment unless it will definitely be in the patient’s best interests. At a young age, the first phase of orthodontic treatment will typically focus on creating enough space for the incoming adult teeth. Treatment could include braces, an expander, a retainer, or other appliances, depending on a child’s needs.
Spacers are one of the most common forms of early treatment. In fact, many patients who get braces will need spacers, even if they begin orthodontia at a later age. Spacers are small rubber bands or metal disks that go in between teeth. These will create room for the braces brackets.
Adult Orthodontia
Although we are a pediatric practice, about 15% of our orthodontic patients are adults. If your child is undergoing treatment with us, choosing our practice can be a convenient way to take care of the whole family under one roof.
Braces can have both health and cosmetic benefits for adults. Bite misalignment can lead to chronic headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and TMJ Disorder. And, of course, a straighter smile can give your self-confidence a big boost!
Here for You When You Need Us Most
We are here 24/7 for our current patients. If you experience an emergency during office hours, we can see you immediately. After hours, our emergency number directly dials our doctors, who can get you in for a same-day appointment, if needed.
Innovative Technology to Improve Patient Care
Dr. Vargas is committed to providing the best possible care to each one of his patients. Teaching allows him to stay up-to-date on the latest treatment techniques and dental technology. Our office is outfitted with advanced tools, including:
- Digital X-rays: Digital images are typically sharper than film X-rays. They are also easier to transfer and share with patients on the computer screen.
- CBCT scans: Cone beam scans can produce three-dimensional images of the entire face and jaw. These images allow Dr. Vargas to evaluate teeth that have not yet erupted and plan the most effective orthodontic treatment possible.
- Invisalign®: For qualified patients, clear aligners can straighten teeth just as effectively as traditional braces. Thanks to advanced digital scans, Dr. Vargas can design custom-made aligners that will fit comfortably and ensure precise and effective results.
- Anchorage devices: These minuscule titanium posts are temporarily implanted in the jaw. They provide a fixed point against which pressure can be exerted. Anchorage devices allow Dr. Vargas to move specific teeth while leaving other teeth in place. They can also eliminate the need for headgear and other large appliances.
