Guide to Kendall, Florida
Kendall is a Miami suburb that has the attractions, amenities, and beachside lifestyle that people expect from one of Florida's most popular cities. Kendall is a great place to stay if you're visiting the area, and it's a wonderful place to call home if you're moving to Florida.
History of Kendall
The area that became Kendall was purchased in 1883 by the Florida Land Mortgage Company. The community is named after Henry John Broughton Kendall, who was the director of the Florida Land and Mortgage Company when the land was acquired. Homesteading was not allowed on Kendall's land, so development was slow. A post office was opened in 1914 and a school in 1929. Two Seminole communities lived on the land until the 1940s. Kendall continued to grow at a steady pace until 1992 when Hurricane Andrew caused severe damage. Slowly, the area has been rebuilt to become the Kendall of today.
