Miami Lakes started as a development constructed by the Graham Companies (then known as Sengra) in 1962 on land that was owned by Ernest Graham, a former Florida state senator. The intention was to create a development that would grow over the course of 30 years, but it's still growing to this day! Miami Lakes, Florida, is in the northwestern area of Miami-Dade County. The town covers both sides of the "big bend" along the Palmetto Expressway. It's a suburb of Miami, located only 16 miles north of the city's downtown and 10 miles north of the airport.
