Miami Lakes started as a development constructed by the Graham Companies (then known as Sengra) in 1962 on land that was owned by Ernest Graham, a former Florida state senator. The intention was to create a development that would grow over the course of 30 years, but it's still growing to this day! Miami Lakes It was officially incorporated in December 2000 as the 31st municipality in Miami-Dade County.

Miami Lakes, Florida, is in the northwestern area of Miami-Dade County. The town covers both sides of the "big bend" along the Palmetto Expressway. It's a suburb of Miami, located only 16 miles north of the city's downtown and 10 miles north of the airport.
